True West and PDX Live hosted an evening of farewells last Sunday for the final concert in the Square of this year's summer series. The beautiful send-off to outdoor weather and festivities, which took place in downtown Portland's living room, was also the last date of Spoon and Interpol's co-headlining tour. Both bands were eager and grateful to conclude a successful campaign for their respective new albums. Alternating, Spoon played first on the second of two back-to-back nights in the Square. Their raw rock power, seasoned and calloused with age beyond its years, was a well-received contrast to Interpol's decidedly cool, brooding, and undoubtedly charming brand of indie alternative. Before the night's close, Britt Daniel and Jim Eno of Spoon joined the stage for Interpol's "Next Exit," personifying the joy and sorrow for the end of the shared tour.
