This Friday night, Chicago’s own Lincoln Hall will be fortunate enough to be hosting a performance from one of the grand masters of electronic music, Nightmares on Wax. The electronic mogul’s career stretches all the way back to the late 80’s and has paved the way for a multitude of performers in genres of house to funk.
Coining such tracks as “You Wish” off his Feelin’ Good album, Nightmares on Wax, aka George Evelyn, has been one of the main influences for many popular artists in the US and around the world. The sample played during “You Wish” in particular was used in array of songs by big time names in the last 5 years or so. It is believed that Pretty Lights’ track “Finally Moving” was the seed that started spreading the same sample to audiences in the millions. The international sensation, Avicii, also used a variation of the sample in his mega-hit song, “Levels.” Perhaps the most widely viewed mock-up of the track comes from Flo Rida’s rendition, coincidentally named “Good Feelin’”; which alone has over 150 million views on Youtube.
For nearly a decade George has resided in Ibiza playing clubs and making track after track for his previous label Wax On and for Wax Da Jam parties. Now he is gracing the US with a tour and fans could not be more excited! Just yesterday I spoke a fellow concert junky, and he informed me he was going to both his shows in New York, then heading back for his Chicago performance this week. Talk about the right motivation and superior dedication!
